Many find it difficult to engage in discussions about racial and ethnic difference. At the same time, the demographics of our country and our workplaces have shifted dramatically. The younger generations that are coming into our workplaces are more diverse, in race, gender and country of origin, than any in American history. How can we encourage employees to recognize this diversity, and incorporate different perspectives into their daily work lives? By the end of the course, participants will be able to: Discuss civility and diversity in the legal workplace; implement strategies to challenge biases and stereotypes; and cultivate skills to defuse incivility.

Program coordinators: Hon. Alfred M. Swanson (ret.), Hoogendoorn & Talbot, River Forest; Hon. Patrice Ball-Reed, Cook County Circuit Court, Chicago

Program speakers: Mark Palmer, Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, Chicago; Hon. Diane M. Shelley, Cook County Circuit Court, Chicago; Hon. Debra Walker, Cook County Circuit Court, Chicago.
